Minor Medical and Heath Sciences Grant Applications

The purpose of the Minor Medical and Health Sciences grants is to increase research capacity in the North West of England by:
- funding excellent science;
- enabling research which pump primes much larger bids to other bodies, such as the MRC, NIHR;
- focusing funds on early career researchers (defined as around 8 years post award of PhD).
These grants will be for a maximum of £25,000 and can be awarded for any area of medical or health sciences research, except (as stipulated in the Trust Deeds) that with a focus on children.

NOTE: we only fund costs directly related to a project; we DO NOT fund overheads or indirect costs including contributions to the salaries of HEI-funded permanent staff; we also DO NOT fund postgraduate students.

Applicants should read, in full, the Grant Making Strategy Policy Document before completing the application form. Because of our focus on the North West we only accept applications from Universities and charities operating in our `Preferred Locations’ of Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside.

Trustees meet twice a year, in March and October; deadlines for receiving applications are August 31st and February 14th respectively.

Medical grants are prioritised to research in the North West of England for sums up to a maximum of £25,000 and ordinarily are for areas such as “pilot study” costs or equipment.

If you are applying on behalf of a Registered Charity please ensure that the charity’s most recent Annual Report and Accounts are attached to the Application Form. For successful applicants, a brief report understandable by someone without a scientific background will be required to be sent to the Secretary at the end of the project detailing its outcomes and impacts
